We first got hip to the work of Mister Lies through his Chicago cohort, and one of our favorite rising producers, Different Sleep. At the time, Lies was just a SoundCloud with a decent amount of followers and a handful of solid, mellow beats (particularly the luscious “Cleam”). But a lot has happened to the Midwest upstart in the time since, as he’s become a champion of the indie-music juggernaut that is Pitchfork, and given this latest tune (which is set to drop on a 7″ through the Lefse imprint in October), that’s not likely to let up anytime soon. “Dionysian” displays an evermore refined producer at work, and the spaces and textures Mister Lies lands on are only rendered more engaging by the engrossing chords and deliciously understated bassline he chooses to implement.
