Only just recently did we catch wind of Archie Pelago, a three-piece outfit from Brooklyn who add a generous and entirely welcome touch of real instrumentation to their elongated stretches of cerebral house and techno. After parlaying an unbelievable—and entirely live—mix for Mary Anne Hobbs’ XFM show (a video for which you can watch here) earlier this year, the trio has popped up here and there, resurfacing most recently with this rework of Wattville’s “Clan,” from the London newcomer’s recent We Jostle EP for Sonic Router. Archie Pelago enhance the original tune with dubby saxophone and jazzy chords which run along more Ethiopian-type scales, turning the track from a percussive tool to a tremendous jazz/house hybrid that we’re hoping will get a fair share of rinses on adventurous dancefloors in the months to come.
